Mount St Francis Sanctuary

About
the Sanctuary

At the heart of our mission is a commitment to preserving the natural beauty and ecological integrity of the site. We strive to provide tranquil spaces for enjoyment, education, and inspiration, fostering a deeper connection with nature and promoting environmental stewardship.

In 1885 Mary and Joseph Anderson donated 400 acres to the Conventual Franciscan Friars in memory of their uncle. The Mount Saint Francis Sanctuary Inc. was formed in 1994.

Over 375 acres of native grasses, woods, wildlife habitat and the lake are actively managed. There are many trails for visitors to enjoy.

400 Acres of Hiking Trails

The public may enjoy the Sanctuary's beautiful 400 acres of hiking trails from dawn to dusk. A number of walking paths have been created to make it easy for individuals or small groups to go around the lake, explore the woods and creeks, or rest at one of the several benches or shrines.

Trails can be accessed in three spots:

  - Peggy's Path is the first parking spot on left upon entering our grounds. This leads down to the lake.

  - Lake Trail begins between the Mission Advancement office and Mary Anderson Center, off to the left side of the large parking lot.

  - Additional trails are further onto the property to the second parking lot, beginning with a gravel road.

Dogs are required on leash

Permission to fish is limited to those who are members of the Fishing club. If you are interested in joining, please call Fishing Club Answering Services at: 502-410-3959.
